My brother, who sells stuff on ebay as a side business, came to Sunday dinner at Mom’s yesteday with boxes and boxes of dvds he’d gotten at an auction to re-sell on ebay.  He has so many he let us all rummage through and keep the one’s we wanted.  Going through all the titles  reminded me of something I’d been wanting to do since I saw a clip on Oscar night of all the movies that have won best picture through the years.  I thought I caught a glimpse of quite a few that I had seen so I wanted to kind of check them off on a list.  Now that I see it in black and white I’ve actually seen less than I thought, although some of these I might have seen and its just not connecting…I might have to read a synopsis or see  whose in them to jog my memory.  Anyway, I’ve bolded the one’s on the list that I’ve seen…28 so far.  Question of the Day: Anyone else seen more than that?

Whew!  I’ve been pretty bad at keeping up around here lately haven’t I?  I will try to do better.  I think I’ve been going through a bit of planning withdrawal since I spent all Summer planning the big camping trip and then there was Abbey’s birthday to think about, and then figuring out her Halloween costume…so, once all that was settled I was at a loss of what to do with myself.  But, did you know that there’s only 62 days left until Christmas (and that will probably be down to 61 by the time I post this 🙂  ).  One of my favorite sites every year around this time is OrganizedChristmas.com…they have a six week countdown that lets you plan for the holidays and have a stress free Christmas.  Unfortunately, every year before now I tend to find it around the first week of December, just when its winding down LoL.  This year, though I was ready when it started on Sunday and I’ve mostly worked my way through the first week’s list.  Now if I can just stay as motivated for the next five weeks :D!

As for Halloween…we were thinking since Abbey is totally mesmerized when she’s watching Curious George cartoons that that would be a good costume for her (especially since the other cartoon she’s totally mesmerized by is Calliou…a bald, three year old boy).   Of course actual, Curious George costumes go for about $45 and look pretty much like the monkey costume from Old Navy so that’s the one we went with (and Scottie managed to grab it for 50% off too).  Last year, when Abbey was a chicken for Halloween, Scottie decided to dress up like a Farmer, so its our new tradition that Dada and daughter dress up with a theme ( I can already see the heartbreak it will cause for Scottie when Abbey’s a tween and done with this tradition 😦  ).   So the obvious choice was for Scott to dress as the Man in the Yellow Hat.  Of course that meant finding an extra large outfit in Yellow for a grown man…not an easy task but we did it so that’s what they will be.  We have a dress rehearsal this Sunday when they have a costume parade at our townhouse so I’ll have to post some pics then.

I’ve been slacking on the menu planning too.  I really want to get in this habit (as I’ve said on previous occasions) so I’m going to work on that tomorrow if its as slow at work as it was today LoL.  As for tomorrow I think its Biscuits and gravy…quick easy and good.  I’ll figure out the rest of the week tomorrow I hope.

Oh, and I’ve joined a gym…never thought I’d say that since I’ve always just walked for excersize and I’ve done it outside or around the hallways at work or at the mall.  Anyway, they offered us a  really good deal for a monthly membership at work so I took it and so did Mom, so hopefully we’ll keep each other motivated.  Hmmm, I think that’s all for now!  I swear I will do better with keeping up with the posts for now on :).

QOTD:

Have you started Christmas shopping yet and if so how far have you gotten?

Ok, Abbey’s birthday party is fast approaching and I still  haven’t settled on a cake to make…that is, if I make a cake at all.  I can tell you this, Bob the Builder and Bulldozer cakes are quite popular searches.  I can’t tell you how many people have found my blog by searching those terms.  By the way, there’s a link in my favorite links section for Creative cakes that I believe takes you right to the Bob the Builder cakes.  If not they are easy to find in a search.  I think I’ve abandoned the idea of a Bob cake though.  Abbey still loves to point out “BOB!” everytime we pass a construction vehicle but, I think I’m going to go with a slighly less boyish theme.  I’m leaning towards a Curious George cake.  There are some amazing ones on that Creative cakes site…or I still might do the Raggedy Ann cake I had stumbled upon before I even had Abbey.  Since I love Raggedy Ann and Abbey is not so impressed this may be my last chance to pick the theme of the cake while she doesn’t seem to car LoL.  Ah well, I’ll figure it out.

So, today’s Question of the day:

What was your child(ren)’s last birthday cake/theme?

…after a long day of shopping at the outlets, you are midway through the almost two hour drive home when you hear from the back seat, “I try to get it out!” and look back to see your two year old with her finger in her nose.  Luckily, I am not driving, my Mom is, so I scoot to the back seat to see if I can do anything about this situation in the pitch dark backseat.  I’m not too successful.  I am able to access that what has managed to make its way into Abbey’s nostril is a piece of foam that she has pulled out of a hole in the fabric cover of her carseat…how big a piece it was remained a mystery.  Two sneezes fail to solve the problem.  I mumble out loud to myself that I don’t even have a pair of tweezers with me.  Abbey looks up at me with huge, worried eyes and asks “Does Mamo have tweezers?”  Mamo is her grandmother, the driver, and no, she foolishly left her tweezers home that night.  When we finally got to the next exit and pulled into a shopping center parking lot there was a Rite Aid there that looked open…whew!  I went to buy a pair of tweezers and when I walked up the automatic doors wouldn’t open…I looked at my watch…10:04…they close at 10 pm, GREAT!  So I rummage through my bag and the best I can come up with is a paper clip.  So, I bend it open and while my Mother holds the penlight on her keychain at just the right angle I perform my surgery…all it takes is one touch to the back of the inside of her nose and a giant sneeze before a sizable chunk of foam finds its way to freedom.

Question of the Day…

What’s your best “You know you’re a Mom when…” story?

Whew!  Its been a while huh?  I’m on vacation this week so I don’t have all the extra time to post that I have when I’m working (tee hee).  Let’s see…we started out last weekend with our big family camping trip.  I was definatley worried about how it might turn out, but it went amazingly smooth, all things considered.  Saturday was the hottest day of the year but we spent it swimming and wading in the Spring in Bash Bish Falls…so it didn’t seem so bad.  Actually, I’m trying to figure out what weekend we might be able to go camping again, but this time with just the three of us.  It looks like we’re all booked up on weekends until the middle of October, but, if the weather is co-operative, that might actually work out.  We shall see!

Let’s see…we also went to the Bronx Zoo on Tuesday. I don’t have my photos uploaded yet, but it was a fun time. Mamo and Papa came as well as Aunt Karen, and cousins Matt and Travis.  I just got myself signed up for a Kodak Gallery account and sent the link to our camping friends so I’ll work on a Bronx Zoo link next!  Actually, while we were in the city we decided to do the whole city experience…we picked up White Castle Hamburgers.  I still have a few left over…I’ll still be having them for lunch tomorrow!  Then we headed to Little Italy and Aurthur Ave. and stopped for some bread…I love bread, but I don’t usually just have bread and butter all by itself…usually I’ll have garlic bread or I’ll dip in the sauce from Spaghetti and Meatballs…but this bread was so delicious that just bread and butter was SOOOOO good!  Then, before we started home, my Dad stopped at a place that had Real Italian Ices…Oh My Gosh!  I got a Lemon one and it was so good…not to mention it brought back so many memories.  I totally remember stopping for Italian Ices after going grocery shopping at Pathmark when we lived in the city.  My brother and I would smash our Italian Ices together so we could get a taste of each other’s ices without actually licking them I guess LoL!

Tomorrow we’re  having a picnic at Lake Taghkonic.  Nothing fancy, in fact we’re not calling it a bbq  because we’re just bringing sandwiches so we don’t have to worry about  actually cooking LoL.  Oh, and did I mention that tomorrow is also my Birthday?  That may help explain the ‘No cooking rule’ for tomorrow Lol!

This didn’t work out so well last time but let’s try it again…

Question of the Day…

What’s your favorite local/hometown food that sometimes you just HAVE to have?

To the right there, under Favorite Links, I have a link to a website that has blog prompts on it.  It shows one at a time and if you don’t like the one you see you click the button and it gives you another one.  I haven’t used any of them yet but once or twice a week I go in and see what prompts are there and click the button a dozen or so times before giving up or getting distracted.  That’s what I was doing today when I came upon a promt that read, ” Today’s prompt: Use the next Blog Prompt…No matter what it is”.  Doh!  Caught red handed cheating LoL.  So I closed my eyes and clicked the button knowing that now I HAD to use it and lucky for me, this is what came up so, without any further ado, here’s my list…

My 10 Greatest Joys…

1. My Daughter- Hands down…no matter how bad my day is when I come home and hear her yell “MAMA!!!”  I can’t help but have a smile on my face!

2. My Hubby- Ok, sometimes I might need to be remided that he’s on the list ;), but really, how lucky  can you be to have your best friend around all the time?

3. My Family- The rest of it that is…not sure what I would do without them!

4.  Food-  Mmmmm!

5. Photography- I love taking picutes…from cute photos of my little one to beautiful landscapes.

 6. Digital Scrapbooking- It lets me get very creative without taking up lots of time to set up and clean up.  Its also my favorite winding down activity.

7. A bubble bath and my favorite magazine- Bonus points if I’m home alone and don’t have to hear my name through the door 10 times before I’m done :)!

8. A Crisp Autumn Day- My favorite season…so many great things to do outside without the stifling heat to deal with.

9. Watching the snow fall from inside- Winter…my least favorite season…but if I’m inside and I don’t have to go anywhere, watching the snow fall while I sip a hot chocolate is so soothing.

10. Christmas- My absolute favorite time of year…I love the songs, the atmoshpere, the food, the planning, the wrapping….even the frenzy.

My husband has a policy…if he sees a lemonade stand (generally manned by kids) he HAS to stop.  The cup of inevetably warm lemonade generally costs fifty cents…sometimes a quarter, but Scottie always leaves a dollar and says ‘Keep the change’ which always brings on a round of gasps and sincere ‘Thank Yous’.  Sometimes they’re not even selling lemonade…the other day my hubby came home with two cucumbers for fifty cents (the dollar he left got him the same shocked gratitude as usual).  So, I guess this would be my first Question of the Day…Do you stop when you see a lemonade (or other food/beverage) Stand?
