Ok, so most of the Christmas stuff is down and I even mananged to go through it, pack it all into plastic bins and label each box with what’s inside.  No more piles of cardboard boxes of all different sizes teetering on top of each other.  I even packed the breakable ornaments separately.  All that’s left is the Nativity set and all the Christmas stuff will be away.

My next project is working on our grocery budget.  I had already planned to try and keep track of all the money we spend on groceries starting on January 1st, but I was very happy to find links to MommySnacks.net  ‘s forms to help track grocery spending.  There’s one to track your total spending and your percentage of savings if you use coupons.  The other lets you track what you spend/save at each store weekly.  Check it out if you’re looking for a pretty simple tracking system that does all the adding for you :).

Speaking of groceries…$5 Dinners is doing a $25 Kroger’s Give away so stop over and enter to win!   I’ve actually never shopped at Kroger’s before but I’ve heard so much about it that when I saw this contest I decided to see if there was one anywhere near me and it turns out there’s one right in my Aunt and Uncle’s town about 45 minutes away.  We’ll be helping them move out of their house soon so I’ll have to scoot over and check it out when I get there :)!

My other organizing goal is to start doing menu plans again.  I’d been doing them pretty regularly several months ago, but with the holidays and whatnot I’ve gotten away from it.  I think I’ll start that next week…by the time I get to sit down and work on it this week will be almost over anyway LoL!  I’ve got a whole chicken to cook and I think I’m going to try making a chicken pot pie with the leftovers…I’ve never done one before but I just love pot pies so we’ll have to see how that goes.  If anyone has a good recipe let me know :)!

Menu Plan…

Ok, I’ve tried this before but I swear I will stick to it this time LoL.  Actually I’ve kind of been keeping a menu plan in my head for the last month or more so I will really try to make it official every week by posting here.  Since Scottie cooks dinner the days he gets home first I’m just listing some meals we’ll make each week and we’ll pick one each night.  I’ll also throw in a more involved meal most weeks for Saturdays when we’re both home all day and have more time and help, but not this week.  This Saturday is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in our town and afterwards we’re going to Darby O’Gills, an Irish Bar/Restaurant where we can get some Irish Delicasies like Shepard’s Pie or Irish Stew, to go with the theme of the day.  Anyway…I digress…back to my menu plan.  So here’s this week’s list…

Sausage, Egg and English Muffin sandwiches (Monday)

Chicken Ceasar Salad

Sloppy Joes

Chicken Parmasean

English Muffin Pizzas

Ok, there it is…let’s see how we do :)!

The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).
Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past – frequently simple goals such as New Year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Whew!  I’ve been pretty bad at keeping up around here lately haven’t I?  I will try to do better.  I think I’ve been going through a bit of planning withdrawal since I spent all Summer planning the big camping trip and then there was Abbey’s birthday to think about, and then figuring out her Halloween costume…so, once all that was settled I was at a loss of what to do with myself.  But, did you know that there’s only 62 days left until Christmas (and that will probably be down to 61 by the time I post this 🙂  ).  One of my favorite sites every year around this time is OrganizedChristmas.com…they have a six week countdown that lets you plan for the holidays and have a stress free Christmas.  Unfortunately, every year before now I tend to find it around the first week of December, just when its winding down LoL.  This year, though I was ready when it started on Sunday and I’ve mostly worked my way through the first week’s list.  Now if I can just stay as motivated for the next five weeks :D!

As for Halloween…we were thinking since Abbey is totally mesmerized when she’s watching Curious George cartoons that that would be a good costume for her (especially since the other cartoon she’s totally mesmerized by is Calliou…a bald, three year old boy).   Of course actual, Curious George costumes go for about $45 and look pretty much like the monkey costume from Old Navy so that’s the one we went with (and Scottie managed to grab it for 50% off too).  Last year, when Abbey was a chicken for Halloween, Scottie decided to dress up like a Farmer, so its our new tradition that Dada and daughter dress up with a theme ( I can already see the heartbreak it will cause for Scottie when Abbey’s a tween and done with this tradition 😦  ).   So the obvious choice was for Scott to dress as the Man in the Yellow Hat.  Of course that meant finding an extra large outfit in Yellow for a grown man…not an easy task but we did it so that’s what they will be.  We have a dress rehearsal this Sunday when they have a costume parade at our townhouse so I’ll have to post some pics then.

I’ve been slacking on the menu planning too.  I really want to get in this habit (as I’ve said on previous occasions) so I’m going to work on that tomorrow if its as slow at work as it was today LoL.  As for tomorrow I think its Biscuits and gravy…quick easy and good.  I’ll figure out the rest of the week tomorrow I hope.

Oh, and I’ve joined a gym…never thought I’d say that since I’ve always just walked for excersize and I’ve done it outside or around the hallways at work or at the mall.  Anyway, they offered us a  really good deal for a monthly membership at work so I took it and so did Mom, so hopefully we’ll keep each other motivated.  Hmmm, I think that’s all for now!  I swear I will do better with keeping up with the posts for now on :).

QOTD:

Have you started Christmas shopping yet and if so how far have you gotten?

Ok, I’m going to give this another shot [blush].  We had an open house yesterday afternoon and since we are going the ‘For Sale by Owner’ route that means that I am sitting at home for three hours every Sunday just waiting for people to stop by.  Usually Scottie is working on Sundays so my Dad sits with me in case any crazy people come by, but yesterday Scottie was off so in between visitors, we decided to take an inventory of all the meats we have in the freezer and then we made up a list of almost a months worth of dinner ideas.  For most of those ideas we don’t have to buy a thing…woo hoo.

Then, after the open house we stopped at the dollar store for a gift bag and I found a two pack of generic, spiral bound calendars with just the template and the days of the week printed and you have to fill in the Month, Year and put the number on each day block.  Which works out well since I’m just getting this planning bug now and its AUGUST LoL!  So now I have a whole list of ideas, most of the ingredients and a nice, neat place to write it all down…no more excuses :D!  So here’s this weeks plan…

Week of Aug. 20

Monday: Ham and Cheese Omlettes

Tuesday: Sausage and Peppers (leftovers from bbq)

Wednesday: Pork Chops, mashed potatoes and green beans

Thursday: Chicken Cordon Bleau, mashed potatoes and asparagus.

Friday: Italian or American Sub.

We leave Friday afternoon for two days of camping with DH’s whole family (more on this later).  The rest of the weekend will be all about hotdogs, hamburgers, macaroni and potato salad, and peanut butter, jelly and marshmallow fluff sandwiches.  Oh, and don’t forget the s’mores.  I’m sure I will have much to write about after the weekend lol.
