This Week's Deals

This Week's Deals

I haven’t posted a good grocery trip deal in a while and I had a pretty good one this weekend so this seems like a good time.  I didn’t need too much from Shoprite this week, and there didn’t really seem to be too many good deals anyway but the deals they did have were really good.
Here’s what I got:
Cheese Nip Crackers .19
Tostitos Tortilla Chips x 3  $8
Tostitos Salsa x 2    0.00
Cantalope     .19
2- 1 lb. Breakstone Butter    .97 each
Andrea Cheese Ravioli   .19
2- Chex Mix      ($1 coupon)    .75 each
Wrigley’s Juicey Fruit Gum (free after coupon, not pictured)  $0
Ajax detergent $1.77
2-  Progresso Bread Crumbs        .99 each
3- Fisher Dry Roasted Peanuts     $1 each
Perdue Chicken leg quarters  (5.50lbs) $1.04
1 bottle of Pepsi  .99
Scrunchy Powdered Drink Punch   1.79
Total: $18.73
Our Shoprite usually puts a full page ad in the Wednesday paper with four or five coupons to get an item for a certain amount, usually under $1.  This week there were four coupons to get Nips, a cantalope, a bag of ravioli and chicken leg quarters for .19.  The Tostistos deal was really good too…if you bought three bags of tortilla chips for $10 you could get two jars of salsa for free, but when I went to get the chips they each had a coupon on the bag for $1 off a jar of salsa for each bag of chips you bought, so in total I spent $8 for all five items.  I wish I’d gone back to do that deal again :)!  So, it ended up being a  good week at Shoprite afterall,  and next week looks good too since they are having a  ‘Purchase $50 worth of items from this list (Unilever and Betty Crocker…among others, ) and receive a $25 coupon towards next shopping trip.   I’m still trying to figure out my shopping list for that sale.   We shall see…

Ok, so most of the Christmas stuff is down and I even mananged to go through it, pack it all into plastic bins and label each box with what’s inside.  No more piles of cardboard boxes of all different sizes teetering on top of each other.  I even packed the breakable ornaments separately.  All that’s left is the Nativity set and all the Christmas stuff will be away.

My next project is working on our grocery budget.  I had already planned to try and keep track of all the money we spend on groceries starting on January 1st, but I was very happy to find links to MommySnacks.net  ‘s forms to help track grocery spending.  There’s one to track your total spending and your percentage of savings if you use coupons.  The other lets you track what you spend/save at each store weekly.  Check it out if you’re looking for a pretty simple tracking system that does all the adding for you :).

Speaking of groceries…$5 Dinners is doing a $25 Kroger’s Give away so stop over and enter to win!   I’ve actually never shopped at Kroger’s before but I’ve heard so much about it that when I saw this contest I decided to see if there was one anywhere near me and it turns out there’s one right in my Aunt and Uncle’s town about 45 minutes away.  We’ll be helping them move out of their house soon so I’ll have to scoot over and check it out when I get there :)!

My other organizing goal is to start doing menu plans again.  I’d been doing them pretty regularly several months ago, but with the holidays and whatnot I’ve gotten away from it.  I think I’ll start that next week…by the time I get to sit down and work on it this week will be almost over anyway LoL!  I’ve got a whole chicken to cook and I think I’m going to try making a chicken pot pie with the leftovers…I’ve never done one before but I just love pot pies so we’ll have to see how that goes.  If anyone has a good recipe let me know :)!

I really mean it this time LoL!  I’ve come here many times since the last time I posted but I just didn’t have the energy to catch up on six months worth of stuff.  Anyway, tonight hubby was working and since I had today off  and we had a late lunch, that left Abbey and I with several hours all to ourselves.  We had such a nice night and I was thinking I wanted to jot it down somewhere so I wouldn’t forget it when I realized that tonight is exactly the kind of thing i started this blog for in the first place.

Abbey was pulling things out of the Arts and Crafts box I found in my old closet at my parents house before she had her coat off.  I was trying to think of a cute Christmas project we could do off the top of my head, but it turns out that she was happy rubber stamping, and gluing colored shapes to paper for an hour and a half.  We decided we were a little hungry for dinner afterall so we had Krafts Maccaroni and Cheese…Mmmm!  Then we decided to have a movie night…we made our dinner and then I thought it would be fun to watch our movie while lounging on the sofa bed.  Abbey did not know that our sofa was a sleeper so the expression on her face when she saw a bed coming out of our couch was priceless LoL.  Our dvd player is on the blink so luckily the Hallmark Channel came to the rescue (or was it ABC Family?), with ‘Silver Bells’.  Not exactly a Christmas Classic, but it would do.   It was pretty good and Abbey only asked Why did this happen or Why did that happen 786 time LoL!  At one point she was asking me about some part or other and I was explaining it to her and apparently my explanation was far too intricate because in mid sentence she stopped me and said ‘Ok, can you go make the popcorn now?’ LoL.  I’d have to say that the popcorn would have to be the best thing about movie night as far as Abbey was concerned LoL.  Anyway, after the movie was over we went up the bed.  Now, over the last few months bedtime has not been a very good experience in our house…most nights it is a struggle (errr, battle!), but tonight I read Abbey her story and I swear she was asleep in less than two minutes after I turned out the light.  It was such a perfect night…I can’t wait for my next day off so we can do it again :).

In other Black Friday news…I swore I would never do this but i got the paper on Wednesday and K-Mart had MP3 players on sale for $10 on Thanksgiving day…so I went to K-Mart on Thanksgiving and got the last two…one for Scottie and one for Abbey.  I couldn’t believe it, I was sure I would find them all sold out. Then, today, the only deal I really wanted was the 1/2 price Fisher Price Mini-Van that goes with the Loving Family Dollhouse Abbey’s getting for Christmas, and again, I got the last one…maybe I should play the lottery or something LoL.  I also found a Thursday only deal on Spiderman Walkie Talkies for my nephew, the only kid I wasn’t done shopping for by August.  Let’s see, what else…Oh, we visted with Santa today and it was the first time we got a picture with Abbey where I didn’t have to be in the picture too.  I was so thrilled…even if she didn’t smile in even one of the pictures LoL.  Ok, enough for tonight.  I PROMISE to be better about posting more often from now on…I swear :D!

Ok, that’s enough for tonight.

Five Minutes for Mom is  having a photo contest called The Kid in You and looking for the Spirit of Childhood…this is the photo that came to mind of my hubby at the Bronx Zoo.  My daughter wasn’t even one yet at the time so he was forced to play with all the cool stuff at the children’s zoo by himself LoL.  There’s lots of very cute photos to check out over there!  Wish us luck :)!
