Archive for the ‘blogging’ Category

Usually I’m happy to see 20 or so hits to this blog on a normal day and kind of figured I’d get a few extras on St. Patrick’s Day because of my title, but I couldn’t believe it when I saw 99 hits on Monday night!  I know that’s a drop in the bucket for a lot of people but I was quite impressed LoL.  Next year I’ll have to be more prepared and have an Irish giveaway or something!

And I know I’m really late with this but here’s my menu plan for this week…

Monday: Corned Beef and Cabbage and Potato soup (of course!)

Tuesday: Sloppy Joes on English Muffins

Pork chops and applesauce (That’s Swell!)

Chicken Marsala

I know I’ve been slacking on the picture Saturday but I have been taking pictures…lots of them!  I just got a new camera, which I love!  I just haven’t gotten around to putting the software on my computer yet so I can upload pictures.  I got the HP R937, its got a 3.6″ viewing screen and a touch screen rather than buttons, plus its like having Photoshop right on your camera!  There’s all kinds of cool effects you can add to your photos like making it into a cartoon look or a kaliedascope, or making it look like a pencil sketch.  You can also do touch ups like if someone has a blemish on their face, and my favorite, the ‘slimming’ feature LoL!  I promise to get up some examples in by the weekend!

Ok, before I go let me give one more plug for my Movie Quote Trivia…I think there’s four left to be guessed and I added hints.  I’ll post the answers on Friday if no one’s guessed them yet.

Ultimate Blog Party 2008

Oops!  Should have mentioned right off the bat…Cead Mile Failte is Gaelic for One Hundred Thousand Welcomes!  I’m not from Ireland but we take our Irish Heritage very seriously.  Our big holiday is coming up on Monday and we can’t wait :)!

I’m very late arriving to the party, but 5 Minutes for Mom  is hosting the Ultimate Blog Party!  There are over a thousand links to women all over the blogosphere and lots of prizes and giveaways to be had as well (more on those later :D)  so go check it out and meet some new, fellow bloggers!

As for me, let me introduce myself…

I am Jen, mom to Abbey, my 3 1/2 year old daughter and wife to my hubby Scottie.  We live and New York and we’ve been married for over 8 years.  This blog is my spot to record the little moments I don’t want to forget, vent frustrations, post cute photos, yummy recipes, and funny little stories…mostly all geared towards Miss Abigail LoL!  Here’s a picture of Abbey and her Mamo (Irish for Grandma) I from our town’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade a couple of weeks ago (scroll down to see a pic of Abbey and I on the same day)…

And here’s my favorite party recipe to bring when I know there will be kids around…

Dirt Cake Recipe

1 16 oz package Oreo Cookies
1/2 cup (1 stick) Butter or margarine, softened
1 8oz block of cream cheese, softened
1 cup confectioners sugar
1 t vanilla
2 4 serving size boxes chocolate fudge pudding, instant
3 cups milk
1 12 oz tub whipped topping, thawed
A few gummi worms
Crush the cookies until they resemble potting soil. Set aside. Cream butter, cream cheese, sugar and vanilla until smooth, and fluffy; set aside. Combine the pudding mix and milk until well blended, then fold in the whipped topping. Gently fold the cream cheese and pudding mixtures together. To put the cake together, layer in a flower pot (about 8″ diameter) with 1/3 of the cookie crumbs followed by 1/2 the pudding mixture, 1/3 of the crumbs, the rest of the pudding mixture and topping with the remaining cookie crumbs. Refrigerate 10 to 12 hours. About 1/2 hour before serving, remove from refrigerator and decorate with flowers and gummi worms. Serve by digging out portions with a shovel.

And don’t forget about the prizes!  There are over 150 up for grabs!  My favorite three are:

The Ballerina Hairclip Holder from Nissa’s Niceties which you can find here

The  3 Books Prize from Jill Norwood at Who Could Ask For Anything More

(she has the coolest movie quote meme going on right now that I just might have to steal 🙂  )

And the Story Package from Cherish Bound

I would also love to win #’s 67, 103, 124, 102,  and 119

The Mission:
Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).
Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past – frequently simple goals such as New Year’s resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organising and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

I stumbled across this idea today.  I love making lists anyway so this is right up my alley!  Here’s the Home of 101 Things in 1001 Days  .  I’m working on my list in my head already so if the next few days are not too busy at work you can expect to see a list from me soon.

I was doing so good, I can’t believe its been over two months (!) since I’ve updated here.  I guess I got caught up in the Holiday Hoopla.  Christmas this year was great!  I think three years old is the best age for Christmas…Abbey loved Santa…except when she was supposed to sit on his lap and smile LoL!  Christmas Eve was great though.  Nana stayed over to see Abbey open her presents.  It was a nice relaxing evening and when it was time for bed Abbey only got up once to yell downstairs that, “I hear jingle bells outside!” LoL, we suggested that she’d better get to sleep really quick and that’s the last we heard from her LoL.  As for gifts, I’m still taking toys out of their packages…and by the way, if I ever need to hide my valuables in a safe place remind me to put them in a toy package…sheesh!  It took me over twenty minutes to get her first toy out of the package Christmas morning.  After that I gave up and opened everything else on the weekend.

So, I can’t believe its been almost a month since Chrismas…seems like the month after Christmas always goes by in the blink of an eye.  My house is still not totally back to normal after the holidays…we are still behind on laundry and today I finally got around to using one of my Christmas gifts for the first time, my cast iron pot, or dutch oven.  I also made stew in it for the first time.  It was actually quite good if I do say so myself LoL.  Ok, that’s all for now.  I promise not to wait two months till the next update :).

Blog Stats

One of  my favorite things to do every day is to check my counter to see how many visits there’s been to my blog today.  Then I found the blog stats section which not only tells me how many visits there’s been, but what terms the visitors used to find me…which can be quite entertaining to read…the other day someone found my blog by searching ‘what to do with maroon carpet’. LoL, if they figure it out I hope they come back and tell me :D!

Anyway, it also shows me if a visitor clicked on a link to find me and what site that link is on.   Turns out that someone who visited here checked out one of the blogs on my blog roll… Mommy Muse   , and she gave me a starring role in one of her posts complete with a link to here.  There’s lots of great food recipes there, an awesome list of plug-ins for wordpress, and more recipes for soap making than I knew existed :)…so go ahead and check her out.    And thanks Mommy Muse!  Kudos, Good Vibes and Yumminess right back ‘atcha 😉 !
