Whew!  Its been a while huh?  I’m on vacation this week so I don’t have all the extra time to post that I have when I’m working (tee hee).  Let’s see…we started out last weekend with our big family camping trip.  I was definatley worried about how it might turn out, but it went amazingly smooth, all things considered.  Saturday was the hottest day of the year but we spent it swimming and wading in the Spring in Bash Bish Falls…so it didn’t seem so bad.  Actually, I’m trying to figure out what weekend we might be able to go camping again, but this time with just the three of us.  It looks like we’re all booked up on weekends until the middle of October, but, if the weather is co-operative, that might actually work out.  We shall see!

Let’s see…we also went to the Bronx Zoo on Tuesday. I don’t have my photos uploaded yet, but it was a fun time. Mamo and Papa came as well as Aunt Karen, and cousins Matt and Travis.  I just got myself signed up for a Kodak Gallery account and sent the link to our camping friends so I’ll work on a Bronx Zoo link next!  Actually, while we were in the city we decided to do the whole city experience…we picked up White Castle Hamburgers.  I still have a few left over…I’ll still be having them for lunch tomorrow!  Then we headed to Little Italy and Aurthur Ave. and stopped for some bread…I love bread, but I don’t usually just have bread and butter all by itself…usually I’ll have garlic bread or I’ll dip in the sauce from Spaghetti and Meatballs…but this bread was so delicious that just bread and butter was SOOOOO good!  Then, before we started home, my Dad stopped at a place that had Real Italian Ices…Oh My Gosh!  I got a Lemon one and it was so good…not to mention it brought back so many memories.  I totally remember stopping for Italian Ices after going grocery shopping at Pathmark when we lived in the city.  My brother and I would smash our Italian Ices together so we could get a taste of each other’s ices without actually licking them I guess LoL!

Tomorrow we’re  having a picnic at Lake Taghkonic.  Nothing fancy, in fact we’re not calling it a bbq  because we’re just bringing sandwiches so we don’t have to worry about  actually cooking LoL.  Oh, and did I mention that tomorrow is also my Birthday?  That may help explain the ‘No cooking rule’ for tomorrow Lol!

This didn’t work out so well last time but let’s try it again…

Question of the Day…

What’s your favorite local/hometown food that sometimes you just HAVE to have?

Haiku Mama

Before going off to bed for the night I had to check in on ‘Absolutely Bananas’ and found out that she is giving away two haiku books called Haiku Mama.  Haiku is not normally my forte but her description makes the book sound so good I couldn’t resist entering.   Maybe after the camping trip this weekend I’ll be moved to write a haiku of my own and get an extra entry LoL.  Check it out here  , even if you’re not into Japanese poetry, her posts never fail to put a smile on my face :)!

Tomorrow starts the big camping trip.  We’ll be going with all of Scottie’s siblings and their families and SIL Karen’s brother and his family.  All together that’s two 1 year olds, one 2 year old, a 3 year old, a 5 year old, a 6 year old, a 7 year old and a 9 year old!  That’s 8 kids all together…all in tents on campsite spots with no electricity or running water.  You would think we were going for a month considering how packed to the gills our mini-van already is…and we still have to get our pillows and the cooler in there.  I’ve got some pointers already from my camping expert friends…would anyone else like to offer some last minute advice for a camping novice LoL?  Oh, and PLEASE pray for no rain!

We shall return on Sunday and I’m sure I’ll have a story or two to tell :D!

Ok, I’m going to give this another shot [blush].  We had an open house yesterday afternoon and since we are going the ‘For Sale by Owner’ route that means that I am sitting at home for three hours every Sunday just waiting for people to stop by.  Usually Scottie is working on Sundays so my Dad sits with me in case any crazy people come by, but yesterday Scottie was off so in between visitors, we decided to take an inventory of all the meats we have in the freezer and then we made up a list of almost a months worth of dinner ideas.  For most of those ideas we don’t have to buy a thing…woo hoo.

Then, after the open house we stopped at the dollar store for a gift bag and I found a two pack of generic, spiral bound calendars with just the template and the days of the week printed and you have to fill in the Month, Year and put the number on each day block.  Which works out well since I’m just getting this planning bug now and its AUGUST LoL!  So now I have a whole list of ideas, most of the ingredients and a nice, neat place to write it all down…no more excuses :D!  So here’s this weeks plan…

Week of Aug. 20

Monday: Ham and Cheese Omlettes

Tuesday: Sausage and Peppers (leftovers from bbq)

Wednesday: Pork Chops, mashed potatoes and green beans

Thursday: Chicken Cordon Bleau, mashed potatoes and asparagus.

Friday: Italian or American Sub.

We leave Friday afternoon for two days of camping with DH’s whole family (more on this later).  The rest of the weekend will be all about hotdogs, hamburgers, macaroni and potato salad, and peanut butter, jelly and marshmallow fluff sandwiches.  Oh, and don’t forget the s’mores.  I’m sure I will have much to write about after the weekend lol.

We are just about off to Mamo and Papa’s for a big family BBQ but I had to stop in and write about this.  Its an unusually breezy day today so Scottie took Abbey out with the Strawberry Shortcake kite we bought months ago and never used.  Before heading out the door Abbey grabs one of those micro-bead pillows from her room and announces she is bringing baby outside too.  Now, this is not a pillow that looks like a baby….its just a round, red, pillow.   All over the house we have dozens of real babies (dolls) but today, the red pillow was her baby and her Dada was doing everything he could to convice her to bring one of her regular babies outside instead of her pillow.  I think he was afraid the neighbors would think she didn’t have any dolls and was having to make due with a pillow LoL.  In the end though Abbey hugged her pillow and brought it outside, and Dada took several breaks from the kite flying so she could go and check on the baby.

The one blog on my blogroll that I visit every single day (other than the one’s belonging to my friends) is Cookbook Junkie .  I always have to stop by to see what she made last night and which cookbook she got the recipe from.  If ever I get organized enough I hope to do what she does…acutally USE my cookbooks…everynight :D!  In the meantime I am entered into her August Cookbook Giveaway…Wish me luck :)!
